Become a Library Volunteer!
Georgetown Public Library has volunteer opportunities for Adults, Teens (13-17), & Community Service participants (18 & older only).

Volunteering at the library can be a very rewarding experience and can help you develop a new understanding of the people in your community. We appreciate the diversity of our community and aim to accommodate the skills and personalities of those willing to offer their time to GPL. Below is a list of volunteer tasks commonly performed that range from the quiet and solitary to the social and interactive.
- Shelving materials: putting library materials on the shelves in alphabetical or Dewey order.
- Shelf Reading: carefully looking through shelves and correcting any items out of order.
- Check In: mindfully observing the condition of returned books, checking items in and sorting them in their appropriate areas.
- Processing Materials: our Tech Services department utilizes the help of volunteers to process new materials entering into the Library’s collection.
Many of these tasks require the ability to push and pull heavy carts, stoop, bend, reach above your head and be on your feet for extended periods of time. Please let the Volunteer Coordinator know of any accommodations you may need during your orientation.
If you’re interested in becoming a GPL volunteer, please fill out each form below and return to a library staff member. (Forms available online or at the circulation desk) The volunteer coordinator will contact you to arrange an orientation time. Teens age 13-17 may volunteer at the Georgetown Public Library. Teen volunteer service is focused on working in the Children’s Room. Volunteering at the library can be a very pleasant and rewarding experience. Below is a list of volunteer tasks commonly performed that range from the quiet and solitary to the social and interactive.

During the Summer Months we are in particular need due to the increase of library use and programming. Home, Public and Private school students may also volunteer throughout the year.
Please fill out a volunteer application, parental permission slip and library skills assessment (available online or at the Circulation desk) and return to a staff member to begin the volunteer process.

The Georgetown Public Library has been approved by the Georgetown Municipal Court for community service hours. To perform community service at the Georgetown Public Library you must be at least 18 years of age. Your paperwork must be filled out completely, be legible, and be signed before you will be considered for community service.
All community service applicants are required to take a library skills assessment quiz to help determine if the library is the appropriate place to volunteer. Please fill out a Community Service Application, background check and library skills assessment (available online or at the Circulation desk) and return to a staff member to begin the volunteer process.

All community service volunteers must observe the following:
Dress
- Shorts and skirts must be a modest and appropriate length.
- Clothes must be in good and clean condition.
- No hats or caps allowed.
- No sandals, house slippers, or flip-flops allowed.
- Tops may not expose the body inappropriately or have offensive words or pictures.
- Pants must fit appropriately and not expose or over accentuate any parts of the body.
Conduct
- Be on time. You may be dismissed for tardiness or failure to show for your shift.
- Cell phones must be turned off.
- Stay on task. Reading, socializing or abandoning your work will result in dismissal.
- Insubordination or disrespectful behavior will result in dismissal.
- Do not disrupt the atmosphere of or wander around the library.
- If you do not understand instructions or where library materials should go, please ASK.
- Work hard and do the job right. You will not receive credit for any work not performed, or for work done incorrectly.
