Total Solar Eclipse 2024
The Eclipse is coming! What makes this one so special? This eclipse is the only one in the 21st century where totality will be visible in large parts of North America, from Mexico to Canada.
Eclipse Glasses
The Library will be giving away eclipse glasses for viewing the eclipse.
- Glasses will be available starting on April 1.
- Limited to one pair of glasses per household.
- Supplies are limited.
- Once the Library is out, we are out!
The American Astronomical Society has a list of North American manufacturers or importers of solar filter glasses and films here. Glasses are available through other major retailers such as Walmart, Target, Amazon and HEB. For your safety, it is recommended to verify that your solar filter glasses are from a safe and trusted source.
Other ways to view the eclipse safely:
- Use a colander! Look at the shadow cast on the ground. It will create shadows that reflect the eclipse.
- Use a sheet of paper with a pinhole through it. Look at the shadow on the ground.
- Create a pinhole projector using a cereal box or shoe box.
