Request Materials

What can we get for you? Resident and Non-Resident library cardholders are eligible to place a request for any item our library does not own. You can place a request in one of two ways:

  • Log into the Georgetown Public Library catalog, which you can do by visiting the catalog and logging in with your library card number and phone number or password. Click on “My Account” in the top right corner of the screen. Click on the Reserves/Requests tab. Find “Is the library missing something? Let us know,” and click on the link to submit the title, author, etc.
  • Or speak to a library staff member, who will submit the request for you.

A librarian will decide whether to purchase the item outright or to borrow it through ILL. Whether an item is purchased or borrowed through ILL, you will be notified when the item is ready to pick up and check out. Notifications go out through the notification method set up for your account: either phone, text, or email.

About Interlibrary Loan

If our library cannot provide a copy of an item you would like to borrow, we may be able to get a copy from another library for your use. This service is called interlibrary loan, or ILL. Any Georgetown Public Library patron with a Resident or Non-Resident account is eligible for ILL services.

Most materials are received from other libraries and ready for patron use within 3 weeks, but the wait time for some items may be longer. The loan period for each item is determined by the lending library. The lending library also determines whether an item can be renewed, and for how long.

Please note:

  • Only Georgetown Public Library patrons with a Resident or Non-Resident account in good standing are eligible for ILL services. (Patrons with GISD or TexShare accounts are not eligible.)
  • Library patrons with TexShare accounts should contact their “home” library to request interlibrary loan services.
  • Interlibrary loan most often provides physical materials like books, DVDs, CDs, and photocopies of magazine or newspaper articles.
  • You do not need to tell us what other libraries own the item.
  • The library pays all postage and delivery costs; there is no cost to the patron.
  • There are items that other libraries are unlikely to loan to us, including books published within the past 12 months, rare books, maps, genealogy materials, reference books, and current bestsellers.
  • Some ILL items may be in-library use only or have other restrictions set by the lending library.
  • Please respect the due date set by the lending library and bring the item back to GPL by that date. If you would like to keep an item longer, you can request a renewal. Just contact us a week in advance of the due date so we can contact the lending library to make the request and let you know what they say.
  • The staff who manage the library’s ILL service can be reached at 512-930-6542 or ILL@georgetown.org.
