Family Storytime: Women’s History Month!

HCPL - Storytime

For this week’s storytime theme we are celebrating Women’s History Month! Here are some wonderful books we might read in storytime:

Go, Girls, Go! written by Frances Gilbert, illustrated by Allison Black

Ambitious Girl by Meena Harris, illustrated by Marissa Valdez

Like So wirtten by Ruth Forman, illustrated by Raissa Figueroa

How to Love a Grandma by Jean Reagan, illustrated by Lee Wildish

Five Little Monkeys Jumping On the Bed by Eileen Christelow

Here are some songs and/or rhymes we might do in storytime:

We Are the Dinosaurs by The Laurie Berkner Band
(a children’s musician who started the modern “Kindie rock” movement in the late 90s/early 00s)

Song: Zoom, Zoom, Zoom
(We were able to go to the moon thanks to many wonderful women who worked in NASA like JoAnn Morgan, the first and only female engineer during Apollo 11, Katherine Johnson who calculated the flight path, and many more!)
Zoom, zoom, zoom,
We’re going to the moon,
Zoom, zoom, zoom,
We’re going to the moon,
If you want to take a trip,
Climb aboard my rocket ship,
Zoom, zoom, zoom,
We’re going to the moon,
Zoom, zoom, zoom,
We’re going to the moon,
In 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, blast off!

Song: Plane Song (tune: Bingo)
(In 1921, Bessie Coleman became the first African American woman to earn a pilot license. That’s 103 years ago! There’s also Amelia Earhart who was the first woman to fly across North America, and mysteriously disappeared in 1937 after attempting to fly around the world.)
I know something that flies in the air
And plane is its name-o,
P-L-A-N-E
P-L-A-N-E
P-L-A-N-E
And plane is its name-o!

See you there!
