Family Storytime: Turtles!

HCPL - Storytime

This week’s storytime theme is “Turtles”! Here are some wonderful books we might read in storytime:

Turtle Walk by Matt Phelan

Croc & Turtle by Mike Wohnoutka

Al Mar/To the Sea by April T. Evans

Here are some songs and/or rhymes we might do in storytime:

Rhyme/Fingerplay: My Little Turtle
This is my little turtle                      (make a fist)
He lives alone in a shell.
He likes his little home,
He thinks it’s really swell.
He pokes out his head                   (poke out thumb)
When he wants to eat,
Then he pulls it back in                  (hide thumb in fist)
When he wants to sleep

Rhyme: I Had a Little Turtle
I had a little turtle
And he lived in a box.
He swam in the water
And he climbed on the rocks.
He snapped at a minnow.
He snapped at a flea.
He snapped at a mosquito.
And he snapped at me!
He caught the minnow.
He caught the flea.
He caught the mosquito.
But he didn’t catch me!

Song: 10 Little Turtles (tune: 10 Little Indians)
1 little, 2 little, 3 little turtles,
4 little, 5 little, 6 little turtles,
7 little, 8 little, 9 little turtles,
10 little turtles in the pond!

Song: Freeze Dance by The Kiboomers
Let’s play the party freeze game! (practice freezing and dancing)
Dancing, dancing all around,
Dancing, dancing, dancing,
Dancing any way you please,
But stop when I say FREEZE!

See you there!
