Family Storytime: Rain!

HCPL - Storytime

There will be no storytimes during Spring Break (March 11th – 15th). Still come visit us for the fun activities and we’ll see you again for Family Storytime on March 20th! Baby Storytimes will resume on March 18th.

This week’s storytime theme is “rain”! Here are some wonderful books we might read in storytime:

Soaked! by Abi Cushman

Sometimes Rain words by Meg Fleming, illustrations by Diana Sudyka

Red Rubber Boot Day by Mary Lyn Ray, illustrated by Lauren Stringer

Boom!: Big, Big Thunder & One Small Dog Words by Mary Lyn Ray, pictures by Steven Salerno

Here are some songs and/or rhymes we might do in storytime:

SCARVES! Song: Rain is Falling (tune: Are You Sleeping?)
Rain is falling, rain is falling,                             (wave scarf up and down)
From the sky, from the sky,
Put up your umbrella, put up your umbrella, (place scarf on your head)
Nice and dry, nice and dry.

Song: What’s the Weather? (tune: Oh My Darling, Clementine)
What’s the weather? What’s the weather?
What’s the weather like today?
Is it rainy? Is it sunny?
What’s the weather like today?

Discuss what the weather is today!

Song: Itsy Bitsy Spider
The itsy, bitsy spider went up the water spout,
Down came the rain and washed the spider out,
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain,
And the itsy, bitsy spider went up the spout again.

Verses: big, big… eensy weensy

Song: Rain, Rain, Go Away
Rain, rain, go away,
Come again another day,
We all to play,
Rain, rain, go away!

Verses: Use any name or any family member! Mommy… daddy… big sister/brother, little sister/brother, baby, aunt, uncle, big/little cousin, grandpa, grandma, etc.

See you there!
