Family Storytime: Raccoons!

HCPL - Storytime

This week we are reading about raccoons! Here are some wonderful books we might read in storytime and our recommendations for you to read at home:

Kitty by Rebecca Jordan-Glum

Surprise! by Caroline Hadilaksono

A Perfect Home for a Family by David L. Harrison, illustrated by Roberta Angaramo

Are You a Cheeseburger? by Monica Arnaldo

The Bear Who Shared by Catherine Rayner

Here are some songs and/or rhymes we might do in storytime:

Get Ready Song: If You’re Ready for a Story, Clap Your Hands (tune: If You’re Happy and You Know It)
If you’re ready for a story, clap your hands
If you’re ready for a story, clap your hands
If you’re ready for a story, if you’re ready for a story,
If you’re ready for a story, clap your hands

Hello song: Clap Everybody and Say Hello
Clap everybody and say “hello”
Clap everybody and say “hello”
Clap everybody and say “hello”
No matter what the weather!

Verses: for April we are learning how to say hello in French which is “bonjour”! Then we repeat again with the signs for clap, hello, and weather.

Song: Raccoon Sitting in a Tree (tune: Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star)
Raccoon, raccoon, climbing a tree,
Wearing a mask, you can’t fool me.
Hiding there so I can’t see,
What you’re doing in that tree.
Raccoon, raccoon, climbing a tree,
Wearing a mask, you can’t fool me

Song: Apples and Bananas by Raffi
I like to eat, eat, eat,
Apples and bananas.
I like to eat, eat, eat,
Apples and bananas.

Verses: substitute with long vowel sounds for the following underlined syllables: ap-ples and ba-nanas

Song: Picked a _______ (tune: Oh My Darling, Clementine)
Picked a _______, picked a __________,
That was laying in the trash.
Then I washed it, and I ate it,
And I picked another one.

Note: Raccoons wet (“wash”) their food first so that they can feel what they have in their hands to know what they’re eating. Raccoons can feel things better with their hands underwater!

Shake My Sillies Out by Raffi
I’m gonna shake, shake, shake my sillies out,
Shake, shake, shake my sillies out,
Shake, shake, shake my sillies out,
And wiggle my waggles away!

Verses: Clap my crazies… Jump my jiggles… Yawn my sleepies… finish with a fast shake your sillies!

Goodbye Song: We Wave Goodbye Like This
We wave goodbye like this,
We wave goodbye like this,
To all our friends at storytime,
We wave goodbye like this!

See you there!
