Family Storytime: Orange!

HCPL - Storytime

This week’s storytime theme is the color orange! Here are some wonderful books we might read in storytime:

Black Cat, White Cat by Silvia Borando

Little Owl’s Orange Scarf by Tatyana Feeney

The Strange Egg by Mary Newel DePalma

Mathilda and the Orange Balloon by Randall de Seve, Illustrated by Jen Corace

Here are some songs and/or rhymes we might do in storytime:

Song: Five Little Carrots by Music with Gina
Five little carrots in the garden,
Five little carrots in the garden,
Along came a bunny and hop, hop, hop!
And they picked a little carrot,
And they ate it up.

Countdown (4…3…2…1…) until no carrots
No more carrots in the garden,
No more carrots in the garden,
It’s time to plant 5 more seeds,
To grow more carrots for my bunnies.

Song: Can We Find? (tune: Muffin Man)
Can we find an orange cat,
An orange cat, an orange cat?
Can we find an orange cat?
We want to say hello!

Song: Picked a Pumpkin (tune: Oh My Darling Clementine)
Picked a pumpkin, picked a pumpkin,
That was growing on a vine,
Then I carved a jack-o-lantern,
And it turned out mighty fine.

Song: I See a Box (tune: If You’re Happy and You Know It)
Someone’s at the door. I hear knocks. (knock knock)
I open up the door. I see a box. (shout “Hooray!”)
I open up the box. The box is full of rocks. (show a rock or 2)
I really do not want a box of rocks. (boo hoo)

Repeat with blocks.

Someone’s at the door. I hear knocks. (knock knock)
I open up the door. I see a box. (shout “Hooray!”)
I open up the box. The box is full of socks. (show some socks)
I really, really want a box of socks. (clap and cheer!)

See you there!
