Family Storytime: Green!

HCPL - Storytime

This week’s storytime theme is the color green! Here are some wonderful books we might read in storytime:

Where Is the Green Sheep? by Mem Fox and Judy Horacek

Greenlight by Breanna Carzoo

Go Away, Big Green Monster! by Ed Emberley

Green by Laura Vaccaro Seeger

Green on Green written by Dianne White, illustrated by Felicita Sala

Here are some songs and/or rhymes we might do in storytime:

Get Ready Song: If You’re Ready for a Story, Clap Your Hands (tune: If You’re Happy and You Know It)
If you’re ready for a story, clap your hands
If you’re ready for a story, clap your hands
If you’re ready for a story, if you’re ready for a story,
If you’re ready for a story, clap your hands

Hello song: Clap Everybody and Say Hello
Clap everybody and say “hello”
Clap everybody and say “hello”
Clap everybody and say “hello”
No matter what the weather!

Verses: for April we are learning how to say hello in French which is “bonjour”! Then we repeat again with the signs for clap, hello, and weather.

Song: There’s a Color That We Know (tune: Old MacDonald Had a Farm)
There’s a color we all know,
G-R-E-E-N
It’s the color that means “Go!”
G-R-E-E-N
Oh, the grass is green and lettuce is green,
Leaves and spinach and peas are green,
There’s a color we all know,
G-R-E-E-N

Song: Mmm Ahh Went the Little Green Frog
Mmm ahh went the little green frog one day,
Mmm ahh went the little green frog.
Mmm ahh went the little green frog one day,
And they all went mmm, mmm, ahh.
But… We know they go (clap) shananananana,
(clap) shanananana, (clap) shanananana,
We know they go (clap) shanananana,
They don’t go mmm, mmm, ahh.

Fingerplay: My Little Turtle
This is my little turtle,                     (make fist)
He lives alone in a shell.
He likes his little home,
He thinks it’s really swell.
He pokes out his head                   (poke out thumb)
When he wants to eat,
Then he pulls it back in                  (hide thumb in fist)
When he wants to sleep.

Shake My Sillies Out by Raffi
I’m gonna shake, shake, shake my sillies out,
Shake, shake, shake my sillies out,
Shake, shake, shake my sillies out,
And wiggle my waggles away!

Verses: Clap my crazies… Jump my jiggles… Yawn my sleepies… finish with a fast shake your sillies!

Goodbye Song: We Wave Goodbye Like This
We wave goodbye like this,
We wave goodbye like this,
To all our friends at storytime,
We wave goodbye like this!

See you there!
