About this exhibit Dan Starling says, “I have always enjoyed experiencing the beauty of God’s creation in nature.

I lived twenty-five years (1996-2021) in Scotland as a pastor. It was in 2018 that I picked up a camera for the first time and began to capture images and share them on social media. I was pleasantly surprised that people actually seemed to enjoy what I was sharing. I built a following posting mainly Scottish castle images. I enjoyed the rugged man-made structures set in the equally rugged but beautiful Scottish landscape.

I find landscape photography and photography in general a great way to exercise my own creativity. Believing that God has created us all in His image has become an important part of who I am and how I interpret what I see through my lens. My desire is to create images that share the beauty that is out there, be that landscapes, cityscapes, or even portraits.

In 2021 I moved to Texas with my wife Pat and our three teenaged children. Although I miss shooting Scottish landscapes, in Texas I still enjoy shooting the skyline of Austin and simple beauty found here, such as wildflowers, not to mention the wonders of the wider American landscape beyond central Texas.

In this exhibition I hope to share the beauty of the ancient Caledonian fortifications and castles. For me, there was nothing quite like standing on a sea cliff seeing the sun rise behind a medieval castle or watching a castle reveal itself slowing through the morning fog. I hope you are able to experience a “wee bit” of this through my collection of images.”
