At the Georgetown Public Library, we’ll do all we can to enrich your life and build a strong sense of community.  Here’s the fine print.

Freedom of Access Policy

We’ll respect and protect your freedom to access whatever information you want. Our building, our materials, our programs, and our services: they’re here for you.

Children’s Policy

We provide a welcoming space where kids can learn, play, participate, and read.

Teen Policy

We offer an environment that embraces teens and their unique interests and information needs.

Bestseller Policy

We promise to buy a copy of every title on the New York Times bestsellers list.  We will purchase one copy for every seven reserves.

Senior Discount Policy

We give nonresidents over the age of 65 $5.00 off our nonresident library card fee.

Military Service Discount Policy

We give nonresident active military and disabled veterans a library card at no charge.

You Break It Policy

We’ll work with you if you lose, damage, or destroy library materials. Accidents happen. Come talk to us.

Special Request Policy

We say “yes” as often as possible. Tell us what we can do for you.

Can you get this item?

We mean it when we try to say “yes” as often as possible. What can we get for you? If we can’t order the item to be a part of our collection, we offer interlibrary loan services. For the cost of one way postage, we’ll do our hardest to find a library that can loan us the item you are in search of. When you’re done, we will send the item back.

Any material requests can be made through the catalog by logging in with your library credentials. You can always speak to a staff member via the phone, by email, or in person to put in a request.

What are the library's goals?

The Georgetown Public Library is dedicated to open and equal access to information, technology, lifelong learning, cultural enrichment, and the joys of reading for our diverse community.

Goal I: Improve access to the information and collections of the library for all citizens of Georgetown.

Goal II: Develop a popular materials collection that satisfies customer demand.

Goal III: Provide high quality library services that meet the lifelong learning needs of Georgetown’s citizens.

Goal IV: Develop a professional working environment that fosters continuous improvement, teamwork, and creativity.

Goal V: Improve collaboration and cooperation among library advocates and the community.

Goal VII: Promote the arts and culture in the City of Georgetown and create opportunities for art in public places.

What else can I do here?

Don’t own a computer, or your home computer or printer isn’t working, the library has more than thirty public access computers that anyone may use. The library also has a photocopy machine, fax machine, and microfilm reader-printer that are available for public use.
