Fading Pictures Paper Conservation Workshop

This program will include an introduction to paper conservation with examples that illustrate common types of deterioration and damage to materials, as well as an overview of professional conservation methods. Steps you can take yourself to prevent further deterioration and preserve the content in your photographs, letters, books and documents will be covered as well. Attendees are invited to bring their own paper objects such as family artworks, books, letters, or documents. The group will look at these examples and discuss possible conservation treatments or preservation measures that might be called for.

Heather Hamilton has practiced paper and book conservation for 18 years. She received her M.A. in Art Conservation from Buffalo State College and has held positions at The Northeast Document Conservation Center, Harvard University Libraries, and the Harry Ransom Center at UT Austin. In 2016, she opened Hamilton Conservation in Georgetown, where she serves private clients and institutions in caring for artworks and documents on paper.
