Georgetown Public Library

E-Books and E-Audiobooks

The library offers e-books and e-audiobooks for our resident and non-resident cardholders’ use. (Our TexShare cardholders should check with their home library for e-book access). We offer you two avenues for e-books: Overdrive/Libby, and SimplyE. Click on each below to learn how to start checking out materials from home!

Overdrive/Libby for e-Books, e-Audiobooks, and e-Magazines

The Overdrive service enables you to log in and check out and download titles electronically and then read or listen to them on your own device. Books are available as e-books or e-audiobooks. Items check out for two weeks at a time and are returned automatically at the end of the lending period. You are never fined for an overdue e-book, and you can place a hold on any item that is currently in use by another patron; you will be notified when it is available for checkout.

E-book and e-audiobook titles available through the Libby app include bestsellers in both fiction and nonfiction.

Recent magazine issues are available in the Libby app for these 20 titles:
Clean Eating
Country Living
The Economist
Elle Decor
Food Network
Good Housekeeping
HGTV
House Beautiful
Kiplinger’s Personal Finance

The New Yorker

If you still need help, call the library at 512-930-3551. We’ll help you download the app and get started reading or listening!

Our library partners with other area libraries through the Central Texas Digital Consortium to offer Overdrive. We fund our Overdrive purchases largely with support from the Friends of the Georgetown Public Library. Thank you to our Friends!

SimplyE for Additional e-Book Titles
Our library is a participant in E-Read Texas, a program by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission designed to increase the ability of Texas libraries to offer e-books to their patrons. The program utilizes an app developed by the New York Public Library called SimplyE. The SimplyE app is available for mobile devices running iOS and Android. It offers a “three-click” approach to e-books: patrons browse the e-book bookshelf, click to select a title, click again to check it out, and click to open and read it. Items are returned automatically at the end of the lending period. You are never fined for an overdue e-book, and you can place a hold on any item that is currently in use by another patron; you will be notified when it is available for checkout.

New titles recently added to our e-book offerings include:

  • GISD San Gabriel River Readers and Red Poppy books
  • Teen titles
  • New York Times Best Sellers in e-book and e-audiobook formats
  • Genre fiction (cozy mysteries, fantasy, historical fiction, and more)
  • Nonfiction titles including self-help, history, biography and autobiography, and more

Those new titles and thousands of others are now available through Overdrive/Libby, where library cardholders can access them.

We are grateful to the Friends of the Georgetown Public Library and other donors for their unwavering support. In this time of crisis, our Friends group very quickly made funds available so that staff could purchase hundreds of new e-book titles to serve our community who are staying home to help slow the spread of the coronavirus. Thank you to our Friends!
